Hong Kong Positions Itself as a Global Halal Food Hub

With the global halal food market projected to reach nearly $2 trillion by 2025, Hong Kong is accelerating its efforts to become a key player in this growing industry. The city is investing in halal certifications, expanding its product offerings, and strengthening international partnerships—especially with Muslim-majority countries.

According to The Halal Times, the number of halal-certified restaurants in Hong Kong rose from about 100 in 2024 to more than 170 in 2025. Hotels and tourist attractions are also becoming more Muslim-friendly, supported by initiatives like CrescentRating and the local Tourism Board.

The government is taking a strategic approach as well. Trade offices were recently established in Egypt and Turkey to deepen ties with key markets. Hong Kong sees the halal trend as an opportunity to become an international reference not only for Muslim consumers but also for countries like China, Japan, and Germany, where demand for certified products is rising fast.
